Africa-Press – South-Sudan. Health authorities in Juba say suspected cases of hemorrhagic fever in Kapoeta East County are in stable condition and have been discharged from health facilities.
The Executive Director of the National Public Health Institute, Kediende Chong, told Eye Radio that the patients are recovering and no longer showing symptoms consistent with the disease.
“The two suspected cases are stable. Symptoms have subsided. They are now discharged and within their family,” Kediende said.
He said laboratory tests are still being conducted to determine the exact illness.
“We will only need to do the laboratory test to confirm, if not viral hemorrhagic fever, what it is exactly,” he said. “We will also run many other tests, including tuberculosis.”
Kediende said a team deployed to Kapoeta East carried out contact tracing, training, and awareness activities in the area before returning to Juba.
“They took the samples, they have also enlisted contacts, and conducted training and preparedness activities on the ground, including awareness. The team is now on their way back to Juba,” he said.
Last week, the World Health Organization, in partnership with the Ministry of Health and the National Public Health Institute, deployed an investigation team to Eastern Equatoria State to assess suspected cases of hemorrhagic fever.
Health officials say the situation in the affected area remains calm.
