Africa-Press – South-Sudan. The minister of petroleum, Puot Kang Chuol Kang, has appealed to the international experts and investors to expand the country’s economic potential.

Speaking at the Ministerial Panel on Diversifying Energy Economics in Vienna, Austria, Chuol said South Sudan is at peace and that resources are needed to develop renewable energy sources.

“We have a year of investment from other countries; that is to say, we have opportunities,” the minister explained.

“However, due to some circumstances holding the country back, we are unable to come up with projects to build dams or create hydroelectric power.”

He stated that the government’s first obligation is to ensure that resources are utilised and that the country’s economy is improved.

“I am calling on leaders here to present how best each can be able to create access to the larger part of our population.

“We urge other countries to come and invest so that the country can generate other income for institutions,” he added.

He reported that the country’s refinery in Unity State, far from Juba, produces an estimated 10,000 barrels of oil each day.

In the 2023 Oil and Power Conference held in Juba last month, Chuol led a host of leaders to woo investors as they emphasised that South Sudan was willing to embrace new entrants in the sector.
