Africa-Press – South-Sudan. <\/strong><\/span>The ruling Sudan People\u2019s Liberation Movement (SPLM) has flexed its muscles to strengthen its grip on Eastern Equatoria State ahead of the 2023 general elections.<\/p>\n

This comes up after a meeting between the state SPLM members and the national secretariat at the state secretariat in Torit on Tuesday. The national team was led by the Chairperson of the Specialised Committee on Health at the National Assembly, Abuk Papiti Ayii to strengthen programs in the state.<\/p>\n

Abuk said the efforts of the Sudan People\u2019s Liberation Movement (SPLM) would energise citizens and make the country firm.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe brought this country from far away, and we must join our efforts to make it stand firm,\u201d Abuk said.<\/p>\n

The SPLM Secretary for Foreign Relations, Bol Makweng, stated that the purpose of their visit was to revive the SPLM agenda, vision, and mission in the state.<\/p>\n

\u201cTorit is the legion of our history. History starts and ends in Torit. Therefore, we must feel and make SPLM strong here,\u201d Bol said.<\/p>\n

The delegation will initiate training of members and preparation for the visit of the SPLM Interim Secretary-General, Peter Lam Both to the state.<\/p>\n

Party united<\/b><\/p>\n

On Tuesday, the SPLM Secretary for Political Affairs and Mobilisation, Kuol Atem Bol, said the party was united and accused other political parties of spreading lies by alleging that there was a struggle for power within the party ahead of elections in 2023.<\/p>\n

\u201cI want to refute some false information circulating on the social media that the party\u2019s leaders have [been] divided over the position of the chairperson,\u201d Atem said.<\/p>\n

\u201cI want to assure the general public, our members and supporters that the information is not true.\u201d<\/p>\n

Atem said the party was ready for elections and willing to give way for the citizens to choose whom they wanted to lead them.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe election is the right of the citizens. I condemn that, and I want to tell our people that there is nothing of the sort at the party\u2019s headquarters. Let them not accept any social information because all the information is void of truth, \u201cAtem added.<\/p>\n

Destined to win<\/b><\/p>\n

Dr James Wani Igga, Vice President for Economic Cluster and SPLM Deputy Chairman, has called for concerted efforts to unite people in order for the party to win elections in 2023. Igga spoke during his recent address to SPLM members in Western Equatoria State.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe need unity. Let us forget tribalism. If we do not bury tribalism; it will bury us. We must bury it before it buries us all over South Sudan, \u201cDr Igga advised.<\/p>\n

\u201cElections are coming up next year and the first goal of any political party is to maintain power, and I want to assure you that on a level playing field, in a fair game of elections, we, the SPLM, will capture this power, but let us not take it for granted.\u201d<\/p>\n

But there is still a bolster on the path to elections, especially the delay in the implementation of Chapter Two of the Revitalised Agreement on the Resolution of the Conflict in South Sudan (R-ARCSS), which entails completing security arrangements, including the unification of forces.<\/p>\n

However, last week the R-JMEC Chairperson, Maj. Gen. Charles Tai Gituai said: \u201cLooking ahead, particularly in view of the holding of elections at the end of the Transitional Period, the Revitalised Transitional Government of National Unity (RTGoNU) must complete the Transitional Security Arrangements.\u201d<\/p>\n

He said the parties must enact all the pending legislation in support of the implementation of the R-ARCSS.<\/p>\n

Charles stressed that prioritising critical activities in the agreement was necessary for the holding of free and fair elections.<\/p>\n
