Africa-Press – South-Sudan. <\/strong><\/span>South Sudan government has joined the African Union in its call for Russia to halt its invasion of Ukraine which it launched on Thursday last week sparking worldwide condemnation.<\/p>\n

Russia last week launched land, air and sea invasion of Ukraine, one of European democracies, accusing the country of 44 million people of committing genocide against Russian-speaking people in eastern Ukraine.<\/p>\n

The African Union this week issued two separate statements, one calling for Russia to halt its invasion of Ukraine and reach a ceasefire to preserve world peace which many believe to be under threat.<\/p>\n

In an interview with the Eye Radio, the deputy minister of foreign affairs and international cooperation Deng Dau said the world\u2019s youngest country stands with the African Union in its call for halt to the fighting in Ukraine.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur stand as African continent is together and our ambassador in New York stands with this group, so we don\u2019t have a separate stand out of the African continent,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

The senior government official further told the Juba-based broadcaster that the only five South Sudanese students who were in Ukraine have been successfully withdrawn to Poland where they will wait while the government is making preparations to bring them back home.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe had a very few student in a place called Kharkiv in eastern Ukraine where the bombardment started, and the five students who were in Ukraine all crossed to Poland,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
