The women parliamentarians yesterday conducted a two-day workshop on capacity building and their political and leadership aspects. Over 38 participants drew from both Council of states and National Transitional Legislative Assembly (NTLA) trained on ARCSS Implementation, and enable them to influence the decision-making.<\/p>\n

Speaking during the opening remarks, the first deputy Speaker in the Council of States Ayen Majok called upon parliamentarians to embrace this opportunity and engage political leaders in strengthening the Women leadership across the Country.<\/p>\n

\u201cI want to extend my gratitude to all women that turn up from different political parties that composed 173 women of parliament constituted number. We have six chairpersons out of 35 with deputies as well. In the council of states, we have four out of 13 Chairperson and four deputy chairpersons as women. If you look at this statistic of Women\u2019s representation, we are almost to fulfill 35 percent\u201d, she stated.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis month is for Women\u2019s Day and of course, every day is Women \u2018s Day, we cannot leave out men who champion women\u2019s rights, but it is mainly marked to celebrate achievements of women in society and deliberate on these issues of our concerns. I finally wish you happy Women Day in advance\u201d.<\/p>\n

Supria Syed UN Women Program Officer compared her context in Pakistan as a Country that similarly struggles in equal representation of women in the political arena. Whereby they started in 1947 from 17% percent of women representation.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am coming from Pakistan and I share with my Country\u2019s context which struggles to achieve equal representation. We started with 17% and later on at equal level with men\u201d.<\/p>\n

Women Leaders in South Sudan always step-up avenues of Advocacy to strengthen them both politically and economically, and contribute diverse ideas for progress of this Country.<\/p>\n
