Africa-Press – South-Sudan. <\/strong><\/span>The Union of Journalists of South Sudan (UJOSS), in partnership with Community Empowerment for Progress Organization (CEPO), has trained 30 journalists from various media houses on skills in engaging women parliamentarians on influencing decision making in South Sudan.<\/p>\n

The workshop kicked off in Juba on Wednesday and is supported by UN Women.<\/p>\n

Addressing the participants during the opening of the workshop on Wednesday, UJOSS President Oyet Patrick Charles, said such training is important in building capacity.<\/p>\n

“For us as UJOSS, these pieces of training are very important. We appreciate CEPO and UN Women for giving us the opportunity to learn all that we are learning today,\u201d Oyet said. \u201cFor us journalists to do our work well, we need to always build our capacity. If we want to be respected as journalists, do professional work, we have to always make sure that we provide accurate information and this is how we will gain respect from the public.\u201d<\/p>\n

The UN Women head of programs, Shukria Syad, said the media should amplify women’s voices in the country.<\/p>\n

“I feel media in any country is the dream of every country. It is the media that create a good image of the country. You have been playing the role in peacebuilding. So, media is key to every country in bringing peace,” she said.<\/p>\n
