Africa-Press – South-Sudan. <\/strong><\/span>On Friday, theSouth Sudan People\u2019s Defense Forces (SSPDF) Spokesperson and some members of his family survived \u2018sudden death\u2019 when a strong wind uprooted a tree within his compound. Maj. Gen. Lul Ruai Koang said he and four other family members survived the unexpected incident because they were under the veranda.<\/p>\n

\u201cI had just returned from work when the incident occurred. My cousin\u2019s wife, her three children, and I survived because we were shielded by the veranda. We were sitting under when the wind uprooted the tree,\u201d he narrated.<\/p>\n

According to Lul, if they had sat under the tree, then the incident would have been a disaster to the family. Lul said the storm caused damage to the family\u2019s Satellite Dish for television as well as parts of the roofing of his house.<\/p>\n

The wind that swept over Juba last Friday evening was very strong that injured some people who were attending an event at Midan Simba playground when tents collapsed on them. This means people need to be cautious whenever they start experiencing such strong wind.<\/p>\n

One needs to take cover to minimize the risk instead of exposing themselves to continue to walk on the strong. We are quite aware that several temporary structures that were demolished along streets by the Juba City Council have been fixed back by the owners some are not properly fixed. Some of the iron sheets are not well fixed and they can easily be removed by the wind. These are the potential risks that one has to avoid when there is a strong wind blowing especially last Friday.<\/p>\n

It is wise to protect yourself from an imminent danger. Unfortunately, many of our citizens seem to have left their entire lives to God even from the simplest thing they protect themselves from. This is being careless to yourself to the extent of ignoring the signs of dangers.<\/p>\n

It is always important to take precautions to minimize any danger of a disaster. Let\u2019s be Major Gen. Lul who was very vigilant and sat under the veranda. He did not underestimate the strangeness of the wind though he has a wall fence that some people would think could have acted as a wind breaker.<\/p>\n

Several incidents required us to be very vigilant. As of recently, Juba has been experiencing frequent tremors which sometimes happen in the daytime. One should come out of a building when he or she starts feeling the tremor than remaining inside the building. So, you can move out of a building and stand in an open space. This will protect you from the risk in case the building collapses. Let us be cautious of ourselves.<\/p>\n
