Africa-Press – South-Sudan. <\/strong><\/span>The Governor of the Sudanese Darfur region, Minni Arko Minawi, is calling on South Sudan’s President Salva Kiir Mayardit to intervene in resolving the ongoing political crisis in Sudan.<\/p>\n

Minawi, the leader of the Sudan Liberation Movement (SLM), speaking upon his arrival in Juba, South Sudan on Thursday, also said they support the move to halt the implementation of the Juba Peace Agreement until the political crisis is resolved.<\/p>\n

He pointed out that the political parties in Sudan have submitted a proposal tasking Juba to play an important role in uniting the Sudanese political parties with President Kiir leading the initiative.<\/p>\n

“Currently, we are in agreement that the implementation of the Juba Peace Agreement cannot continue due to the current political crisis in the country,” he said.<\/p>\n

Minawi adds, “We are seeking dialogue to resolve the crisis and so we have invited President Salva Kiir because we believe that when we have a problem, it is our neighbors who can intervene and assist us.”<\/p>\n

In August 2020, the Sudanese government signed the Juba Peace Agreement in Juba, the capital of South Sudan, with the rebel coalition of the Sudan Revolutionary Front (SRF) to end years of conflict in the Darfur region, South Kordofan, and the Blue Nile states.<\/p>\n

Sudan has been suffering a political crisis after the general commander of the Sudanese Armed Forces Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan declared a state of emergency on Oct. 25, 2021, and dissolved the Sovereign Council and the government.<\/p>\n

Since then, the Sudanese capital of Khartoum and other cities have been witnessing continued protests demanding a return to civilian rule. The situation has brought to a halt the implementation of the Juba Peace Agreement.<\/p>\n
