Africa-Press – South-Sudan. <\/strong><\/span>Wildlife conservation authorities in Northern Bahr el Ghazal State have revealed that preparations are underway to check poaching after an increase in the vice.<\/p>\n

Col. Marko Bol, the acting director of wildlife conservation in the state, told Radio Tamazuj that the operations will take kick off soon because poaching is out of control.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt will not take long, we are going to start the work by deploying our forces to areas where the animals are killed and where bushmeat is stored,\u201d Col. Bol said. \u201cWe are also going to dialogue with our people in different places so that they can support us in animal protection because the animals are there for the coming generation.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cOf course, the military parade is not disclosed to the media but the troops are ready with their equipment to start their duties in protecting the country\u2019s property (wildlife),\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

Akol Kiir, a resident of Aweil town, said bush meat is freely sold in large quantities in Aweil center. \u201cYes, bushmeat is too much here because there are people who poach and sell it here. Wild pigs, deer, giraffe, gazelle, even monkey meat is sold in quantities,\u2019\u2019 said Kiir.<\/p>\n

For his part, Aweil West County Commissioner Chok Dut Chok welcomed the deployment of the wildlife personnel to rescue the local community from hippo attacks along the Nyamlel River.<\/p>\n

\u201cHippos are threatening people who go fishing. The hippos chase people away from the river and the wildlife forces will help contain the threat,\u2019\u2019 he said.<\/p>\n
