Africa-Press – South-Sudan. <\/strong><\/span>Authorities in Aweil Municipal Council in Northern Bahr el Ghazal State have said the rehabilitation of the 40 kilometers of town roads is progressing well and has reached the Gabat residential area.<\/p>\n

The Aweil town mayor, Garang Deng Diing, told Radio Tamazuj Monday that the road rehabilitation works over the weekend reached the Gabat residential area and said they will soon work on roads in the Hai Mozifiin neighborhood.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are currently working in the Gabat residential area and after that, we are heading to Hai Muozifiin,\u201d Mayor Deng said. \u201cWe started the works in January and we are targeting a 40 km-stretch and will make a new plan if we complete this.\u201d<\/p>\n

Gabat area dweller, Achol Mawein, applauded the government for opening up the roads. “We are delighted because of the opening of roads in Gabat. We thank Governor Tong Akeen Ngor who brought the roads so that we and our children who go to school can move smoothly,\u201d Mawein said.<\/p>\n

Another resident, Malith Yuot Yom, said the locals welcomed the move to open roads. \u201cWe welcome the move and all citizens are happy at this point and we give special thanks to Governor Tong Akeen and we would congratulate him and stand by him,\u201d Yuot said.<\/p>\n

Aweil town\u2019s neighborhoods of Malou Aweer, Deng Nhial, Naivasha, and Maper Akot Aru were among the suburbs established before the independence of South Sudan. However, road connectivity was poor until early January 2022 when the council started demarcating the streets.<\/p>\n
