Africa-Press – South-Sudan. <\/strong><\/span>Local youths and women in Twic East County, Jonglei state, have embarked on dyke repair works to prevent floodwaters from rising as rains are set to begin in the coming months. The county executive director, Deng Gak Atem, told Radio Tamazuj that the work began last week.<\/p>\n

\u201cYouths and women have been involved in the (dyke) repair works since Tuesday last week. About 2,000 youth and women supported by WFP in partnership with JAM International are involved in the work,\u201d Gak said. He called on all youths to take part in the works to save the county from flooding.<\/p>\n

For his part, Ruben Makeer, the county Relief and Rehabilitation Commission coordinator, applauded the aid agencies for supporting the repair works and called on the youth to expedite the works before the rains start.<\/p>\n

Deng Atem, a youth representative, said they are determined in fixing all the broken parts of the dyke. \u201cWe have fixed 59 broken parts of the dyke. We will continue with the work to save our county,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
