Africa-Press – South-Sudan. <\/strong><\/span>JUBA \u2014 South Sudan\u2019s main armed opposition Sudan People\u2019s Liberation Army in Opposition (SPLA-IO) has this evening recaptured its base at Jekou which was captured by South Sudan People\u2019s Defense Forces two days ago, senior SPLA-IO general said.<\/p>\n

Speaking to Sudans Post from Jekou, the senior SPLA-IO commander who requested not to be identified by name said the SPLA-IO forces have retaken the town after South Sudan\u2019s army launched surprise attack on the group\u2019s positions in both Upper Nile and Unity state.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is to confirm that the attack which resulted in the capture of our cantonment site has now been defeated and we are back in our position,\u201d the senior opposition military commander said on phone from Jekou.<\/p>\n

He revealed however that fighting has continued to take place in other places in Maiwut and Longechuk and urged the South Sudan People\u2019s Defense Forces command in Juba to intervene so that it forces do not \u2018killed\u2019 the revitalized agreement.<\/p>\n

\u201cNow as I am speaking with you, fighting is taking place in several areas not only in Maiwut, but in Longechuk County and all these attacks are not provoked. We were just surprised by the attack from our peace partners,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy message to the South Sudan People\u2019s Defense Forces leadership is that don\u2019t spoil the spirit of peace we have constructed over the last three years. You need to intervene so that your soldiers here do not kill the peace agreement,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
