In a bid to overcome youth unemployment and empower young people, Christian Agency for Peace and Development, a faith-based organization is advocating for the establishment of a youth enterprise development fund as stipulated in the peace pact.<\/p>\n

The 2018 revitalized peace agreement Chapter IV provides for the formation of the youth enterprise development fund with the goal to bring more youth into the economic growth and development.<\/p>\n

Mr. Peter Malir Biar, the Executive Director of the Organization said influencing stakeholders was the only way to unlock the difficulties and challenges associated with realizing youth initiatives that were yet to be fulfilled.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs a youth, we need to advocate for our rights. No one is going to give it to us. So, this means that we should make steps for us to unlock challenges that are facing youth including the issue of the enterprise development fund,\u201d he said in an opening remark in Bor Town as he encourages the young people to advocate for their rights.<\/p>\n

Over 40 participants attended the event. These include youth, civil society, block representatives, chiefs, Jonglei State Human Rights Commission, Jonglei state parliamentary affairs, local government representatives as well as the state chamber of commerce.<\/p>\n

Mr. Malir said it was high time for the national and state governments as well as relevant governmental entities to speed up the process of establishing Youth Enterprise Development Fund.<\/p>\n

The event dubbed \u201cLet\u2019s end youth unemployment in South Sudan\u201d as one of its themes was supported by the Norwegian People\u2019s Aid (NPA).<\/p>\n

Jacob Kuany Ayom, Director General for Jonglei state Parliamentary Affairs said the state was passionate about engaging young people, stating that the state accommodates about 44 percent of youth in leadership position.<\/p>\n

However, for the enterprise development fund, he said they were going to table it to the state parliament and see how it can be achieved in time.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe youth enterprise development fund will be taken to the parliament for discussion and debate,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

The state official disclosed that they were going to debate about it and see the possibilities of achieving it in time.<\/p>\n

While concluding, he urges the youth to refrain from violence and champion peace building initiatives without taking wrong directions.<\/p>\n

Isaac Tut, the Deputy Chairperson for the Jonglei State Human Rights Commission admitted that it was an obligation for the state government to deliver services to the young people.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is a sole right of youth to be empowered by their governments,\u201d he said during the event in Bor.<\/p>\n

Joseph Maketh, a Senior Inspector at the Jonglei State Revenue Authority said the taxes were being collected but its use was necessary<\/p>\n

\u201cOur duty is to collect taxes but we do not decide the distribution and allocation mechanisms. We collect money and register in form 15 that is accessible to all government officials,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

The dialogue was meant to influence the state governance and its relevant entities to champion the process of realizing Youth Enterprise Development Fund as an effort of the institution towards implementation of the peace agreement<\/p>\n
