Africa-Press – South-Sudan. <\/strong><\/span>The representatives drawn from various peace guarantors on Wednesday urged President Salva Kiir Mayardit to schedule talks with the First Vice President, Dr Riek Machar Teny to end the tension and stalemate in peace implementation.<\/p>\n

They were drawn from the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS), the African Union (AU), the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) and Reconstituted Joint Monitoring and Evaluation Commission (R-JMEC).<\/p>\n

They noted that dialogue between President Kiir and Dr Machar was vital to ease the current political situation and help in the implementation of the Revitalised Agreement on the Resolution of the Conflict in South Sudan (R-ARCSS).<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Special Representative of the African Union, Prof. Joram M. Biswaro said, they urged President Salva Kiir Mayardit to initiate talks with the First Vice President Dr Riek Machar Teny, to de-escalate the current political situation and to uphold their respective obligations under the 2018 Revitalized Peace Agreement,\u201d the statement read.<\/p>\n

President Kiir pledged full commitment to the implementation of the Revitalised Peace Agreement, vowing not to return the country to war.<\/p>\n

Ready for talks<\/b><\/p>\n

The Director for Information and Public Relations and the Acting Press Secretary in the office of the First Vice President, Puok Both Baluang, stated on Wednesday that Machar was willing to meet with the president whenever the meeting is scheduled.<\/p>\n

\u201cI would like to assure the public that the First Vice President, is open and willing to meet with the President when the meeting is set,\u201d Puok noted.<\/p>\n

Puok stated that the office of the First Vice President had not received any communication about a scheduled meeting with the President, adding that it was last month that they received such communication but was later cancelled.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut until now, we have not been notified to attend any meeting but we are willing to meet with the President to discuss, the escalating situation,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
