Africa-Press – South-Sudan. <\/strong><\/span>The administration of Dr. John Garang Memorial University of Science and Technology on Thursday suspended the operations of the institution\u2019s students\u2019 union leadership over alleged \u201cmismanagement of the union\u2019s funds.\u201d<\/p>\n

Last week, a group of students accused its guild president of misappropriating SSP 900, 000 meant for the operation of the students’ body.<\/p>\n

Speaking to the media from Bor town, Ngor Lual, the Dean of Students\u2019 Affairs, confirmed the decision and said the matter was being handled administratively.<\/p>\n

\u201cThese are just internal information that we are able to control within the university and it has not gone off our hands. If there are issues of alleged misappropriation of the union\u2019s funds then we have modalities for us to follow up on the issue. That cannot bring chaos,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

For his part, Ajith Solomon, the embattled president of the students\u2019 union, dismissed the allegation that he had misappropriated the union\u2019s resources.<\/p>\n

\u201cOf course, those allegations are there. We call them allegations because until the audit is done, this is when you could come up with a point that the funds were wrongly used and if you said the funds were wrongly used this means they were used for what they are not intended for,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Dr. John Garang Memorial University of Science and Technology is one of the five public universities in the country. The other ones include; the University of Juba, University of Upper Nile, University of Bahr el Ghazal, and Rumbek University.<\/p>\n
