Africa-Press – South-Sudan. <\/strong><\/span>Abyei Civil Society organizations have called for the full withdrawal of all armed forces from Sudan and South Sudan for allegedly committing atrocities against civilians in the contested region.The group organized a demonstration in Abyei town last week to reject the proposed deployment of military forces of SSPDF and SAF in the north\/south border of river Kiir.<\/p>\n

They accused both forces of committing atrocities against civilians in Agok town, Mabuony, Mading-jokthiang, Maker, Aneet, and Keei or Diffra.<\/p>\n

Chol Lual Miyen, the Chairperson for Youth in Abyei Administrative Area told Eye Radio that both countries must respect the agreement that mandates the UNISFA as the only neutral force in the Abyei region.<\/p>\n

Lual added that civil society groups are demanding for the establishment of new team sites for UNISFA forces \u2013 south of river Kiir in Athony, Mading yer yer, and Maker Jupur..<\/p>\n

\u201cThis [demonstrations] happened on Saturday, they are demanding that the Sudan and South Sudan force SSPDF shouldn\u2019t be deployed in the Abyei box,\u201d Lual told Eye Radio.<\/p>\n

\u201cAccording to the UN mandate there are supposed to be no arms within the Abyei box. And according to agreement between the two countries it says there should be no arms within the Abyei box.<\/p>\n

\u201cNow, we can see in the southern part of Sudan there are troops deployed there in the oil field and for South Sudan, there is SSPDF in the southern part of Abyei which is within the box.\u201d<\/p>\n

The activists include; Abyei Civil Society organization, Abyei Youths Union, Abyei Women Association and Abyei Professionals Association.<\/p>\n

Civilians in Abyei have suffered multiple incidents of cattle-related hostilities that led to the death of dozens of people, destruction of properties as well as displacement of many others.<\/p>\n
