Africa-Press – South-Sudan. <\/strong><\/span>The Norwegian government has promised to support the government of Jonglei State and a fish processing group whose project is funded by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).
\nThe pledge was made by a delegation that visited Bor Town yesterday. The group was headed by the Minister of International Development at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Beathe Kristiansen Tvinnereim, and the Royal Norwegian Ambassador to South Sudan, Siv Kaspersen.
\nDenay Jock Chagor, Governor of Jonglei State, stated that his government\u2019s priorities included the distribution of seeds and tools to local communities, the construction of a dyke, the construction of a drainage system, and so on.
\n\u201cGovernor Chagor briefed the delegates on the progress of the revitalised peace agreement and the security situation in Jonglei,\u201d the statement from the office of the governor read.
\n\u201cHe added that some of the government\u2019s priorities include provisions of seeds and tools to local communities, the construction of a dyke, the drainage system in Bor town and many more.\u201d
\nChallenges<\/b>
\nSince last year, the government of Jonglei State has been facing a lot of challenges in relation to the unpaid salaries of civil servants.
\nIn March 2022, the Secretary-General of the Jonglei State Workers\u2019 Trade Union, Samuel Majier Loch, claimed that their salaries were released by the national government but disappeared within the state, resulting in delayed payment of salaries.
\nIn February, Chagor indefinitely suspended the state minister for finance, planning and investment, Wiyual Gatkuoth Changath, following a statement he issued trying to explain why the salaries of civil servants were delayed in the state.
\nAfter massive demonstrations, the state government agreed to pay the nature of work allowance to civil servants from local revenue. However, the state government later withdrew the decision, claiming to divert the money towards security stabilisation.
\nInsecurity caused by cattle raids, inter-communal fights and floods remains the major challenges facing the government of Jonglei State.<\/p>\n
