Africa-Press – South-Sudan. <\/strong><\/span>The government of Eastern Equatoria State has sworn in Betty Hope Awor as the Deputy Speaker of the reconstituted state legislative assembly. Betty is among the eight members of Other Political Parties (OPP) who took the oath of office on Tuesday.<\/p>\n

Speaking to journalists after swearing-in, deputy speaker said: “We have a lot of issues facing Eastern Equatoria, we have the issues of cattle raids which is challenging, we have issues of staff not getting salaries on time, and we have a lot of economic challenges in which people are not able to meet the daily necessities. It is a challenge.”<\/p>\n

Betty called on the parliamentarians to cooperate and work in unity for the realization of “The changes that I will bring will depend on the unity, and the cooperation accorded, and with that everything will move on smoothly,” she added.<\/p>\n

In his statement during the swearing-in, Eastern Equatoria State Assembly Speaker Severino Maira Janus congratulated the MPs and urged them to serve the people of the state.<\/p>\n

\u201cI congratulate all those who have just taken the oath of office. I want to tell the deputy speaker that the responsibility is already in your hands,” he said.<\/p>\n

In February, the Eastern Equatoria government swore in 92 members of parliament comprising SPLM-IO, SPLM-IG, and SSOA, but OPP party members were not sworn in due to internal disagreements.<\/p>\n

The eight members including Betty Hope Awor, Joseph Opio, Onen Paul Isidoro, Regina Naphtali, Pasquale Anthony Ola, Francis Oriama Victor, and Moi Issac Lokwade were appointed by President Salva Kiir on the 28th of March 2022.<\/p>\n
