Africa-Press – South-Sudan. <\/strong><\/span>The Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs has urged South Sudanese to actively participate, share their experience and views with the commission for Truth, Reconciliation and Healing.<\/p>\n

A public consultation for the establishment of the commission was launched by President Salva Kiir on Tuesday. It is now expected to conduct meetings with women, youth, religious leaders, traditional leaders among others in all parts of the country as enshrined in the revitalized peace agreement.<\/p>\n

Justice Ruben Madol is also calling on state governments and authorities in the three administrative areas to cooperate and support the consultation process.<\/p>\n

\u201cAfter this launching the technical committee will be traveling to every part of the country, I would like to urge the members to take the opportunity to actively participate and share their experiences and views,\u201d Justice Madol said during the launch of the public consultation of the commission in Juba.<\/p>\n

\u201cI would also like to call on the state governors, administrators of the administrative areas, local officials and Community leaders for them to support in the mobilization of the people.\u201d Justice Madol went on to commend the international community for its support to the commission for truth, reconciliation and healing.<\/p>\n

\u201cI would like to express our sincere thanks and appreciation to the partners for their support, UNDP in particular has provided technical support from the beginning to strengthen the capacity of the technical committee and enable it to draw on lessons from relevant experiences in the region,\u201d Madol said.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have to ensure the exercise is consistent with international principle standards and best practices. I would also like to thank the government of the kingdom of the Netherlands for the financial support.\u201d<\/p>\n

The revitalized peace agreement obligates the ministry of justice in collaboration with stakeholders and civil society to conduct public consultations for a period not less than a month prior to the establishment of the Commission for Truth, Reconciliation and Healing.<\/p>\n

The commission shall then recommend processes and mechanisms for the full enjoyment by victims of the right of remedy including by suggesting measures for reparation and compensation.<\/p>\n
