Africa-Press – South-Sudan. <\/strong><\/span>South Sudan’s President Salva Kiir on Tuesday night announced a unified armed forces command, ending an anxious wait for the integration of opposition commanders into the armed forces.<\/p>\n

A deal signed by the parties to the 2018 peace agreement on 3 April in Juba sets out terms of integrating SPLA-IO and SSOA commanders into government forces.<\/p>\n

Under the deal, President Kiir\u2019s faction got a 60% representation in key leadership positions in the military, police, national security, wildlife and prisons. Riek Machar\u2019s SPLA-IO and SSOA took the remaining 40%.<\/p>\n

The unified command will be leading the unified armed forces in the country as stipulated in the 2018 peace agreement.<\/p>\n
