At least 117inmates graduated with different vocational skills at Juba Central Prison Vocational Training Center.<\/p>\n

With support from the United Development Programme (UNDP) and the Kingdom of the Netherlands, the inmates completed a one-year course in different skills such as carpentry, computer\/digital, masonry, metalwork, tailoring, hairdressing and fashion design, agriculture, food processing, plumbing electrical and auto mechanic.<\/p>\n

These inmates include 35 males Adult, 70 juvenile Boys, 8 females Adults 4 Juvenile Girls, In addition to that there are also 5 male prison personnel and 4 Females.<\/p>\n

While addressing graduands during the 6th graduation ceremony organized by National Prison Service yesterday, the Minister of Interior Mahamoud Solomon Agokurged the inmates to use the skills acquired to support their families<\/p>\n

\u201cWe gave you this small knowledge and we shall give you more so that you can support your families and yourself,\u201d Agok said.<\/p>\n

He added that putting more effort into more vocational skills for inmates allows them to easily integrate into societies after they are released.<\/p>\n

He reaffirmed the government\u2019s commitment to work hand in hand with partners to build the capacity of the inmates across the country.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Samuel Doe, UNDP Resident Representative said that a total of 907 inmates graduated from various vocational training centers.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe number of inmates so far graduated are 907 comprising of 65 juveniles. Consequently, 438 adults and 51 juvenile graduates have been released back to the community between the year 2016 and 2020 with no known reoffending case among them\u201d Doe said.<\/p>\n

He said that with the skills acquired by the inmates, they can be able to address their own needs.<\/p>\n

However, Gen Henry KuanyAguar, Director General of the National Prison Service said that the skills acquired remain an opportunity for the inmates to be productive.<\/p>\n

\u201cFor you the graduands, you have been given the opportunity to make yourselves productive for sustainability for your livelihood upon reintegration to your communities,\u201d Kuany said<\/p>\n

He appreciated the UNDP and the Kingdom of Netherlands for their support to the prison service in regards to capacity building.<\/p>\n

\u201cUNDP with support from the Kingdom of the Netherlands had been supporting the National Prison Service of South Sudan in providing vocational training skills to inmates in Juba, Wau and Recently Malakal central Prison\u201d he expressed.<\/p>\n
