Africa-Press – South-Sudan. <\/strong><\/span>The 58 inmates recently pardoned by South Sudan’s Unity state governor in Mayom County have been released from prison.<\/p>\n

Governor Joseph Monytuil Wejang last Sunday pardoned the prisoners who were convicted of petty crimes including cattle theft and robberies.<\/p>\n

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj, Mayom County Commissioner Chuol Gatluak Manine said the convicts had served up to six months in jail.<\/p>\n

“The 58 inmates who were in Mayom Prison have been released. They are not there,” he confirmed.<\/p>\n

Commissioner Gatluak said murder convicts were still in prison and will serve their full sentences as accorded by the court.<\/p>\n

“These inmates spent only five to six months depending on the nature of small petty crimes she\/he has committed. Some of them were arrested because of borrowing money and never returning the money to the owner, and others were arrested for stealing people’s properties and cattle. These are just small petty crimes,” he added.<\/p>\n
