Africa-Press – South-Sudan. <\/strong><\/span>The Vice President of the Economic Cluster, Dr James Wani Igga, is optimistic that South Sudan will achieve economic stability through sustainable economic growth.<\/p>\n

Speaking during the ceremony of the Economic Policy Dialogue seminar organised by UNDP on Monday, under the theme, \u2018\u2018Re-igniting Economic Recovery and Inclusive Growth,\u2019\u2019 Dr Igga noted that his cluster would endeavour to improve the economic standards of the country.<\/p>\n

\u201cEconomic recovery and growth have the basis of increasing prosperity. Growth comes from the accumulation of capital. This leads to technical progress. Accumulation and innovation raise the productivity of inputs into production and increase the potential level of output. \u201cGrowth can be affected by the policy,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe want this knowledge to penetrate and enter into government policies.\u201d So, the rate of growth can be affected by policy.\u201d<\/p>\n

According to the statement from the Vice President for Economic Cluster Press, Dr Igga hailed domestic economic recovery and growth for creating avenues for economic growth in the country, as the cluster exhaustively discussed ways of reviving the country\u2019s economy.<\/p>\n

There were presentations by Dr Aggrey Tisa on the Investment Acceleration program, identifying opportunities and challenges in South Sudan, and the impacts of the sustainable agriculture production system in farming by Eng Kuyu Dhel.<\/p>\n

\u201cMembers of the economic cluster listened to presentations from experts like Dr. Aggrey Tisa on the Investment Acceleration programme and the identification of opportunities and challenges in South Sudan,\u201d the statement read.<\/p>\n

There was also the \u201cImpact of the Sustainable Agriculture Production System on Farming Practices\u2019\u2019 by Eng. Kuyu Dhel.\u201d<\/p>\n

Combating corruption<\/b><\/p>\n

Last week, Dr Igga called for joint efforts to combat corruption as a pivotal means of transforming and stabilising the economy.<\/p>\n

He reiterated that the fight against corruption would help reduce the poverty level as well as ensure transparency and accountability in the distribution of resources, and public expenditure.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe fight against corruption is particularly important as it impacts the poorest sections of society and generally benefits those already in positions of power,\u201d he noted.<\/p>\n

\u201cWithout reducing corruption, all development goals will be severely compromised. So at the heart of all these is combating corruption. \u201c<\/p>\n

The Vice President stated that his cluster was accused of misuse of public funds, but he stressed that accounting officers in all government institutions must be held accountable for malpractices.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think we can now begin to dwell on a steady promotion of the economy led by effective development,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe must strengthen the parliamentary oversight of public expenditure. The public accuses us. We must hold the accounting officers accountable. \u201c<\/p>\n
