Africa-Press – South-Sudan. <\/strong><\/span>The editor-in-chief of Juba Monitor has been released from prison this afternoon ahead of her trial, which has been scheduled for next week.<\/p>\n

Anna Nimiriano was arrested on Tuesday for allegedly defying a Juba court order to suspend operations of the Juba Monitor newspaper.<\/p>\n

On 12 April, a high court suspended activities of Juba Monitor over alleged malpractices until a final court ruling. The court also suspended the activities of Grand Media Africa firm, which runs the independent newspaper.<\/p>\n

This came after the family of late Alfred Taban, founder of the independent newspaper, filed a lawsuit against the management on claims of malpractices.<\/p>\n

Lazarus Legu, the newspaper\u2019s legal adviser, told Radio Tamazuj this evening that the editor-in-chief was released from jail on Friday afternoon pending trial.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe [Anna Nimiriano] has been released. There will be a court hearing on 25 April. Also, the case of the newspaper will continue next week,\u201d Lazarus said.<\/p>\n

According to the lawyer, the management had complied with the court order to suspend operations of the Juba Monitor newspaper until a final court ruling.<\/p>\n
