Africa-Press – South-Sudan. <\/strong><\/span>Having started my small business in electronics in 2019, since then, my daily interaction with various digital platforms has been inevitable. This has been manifested in ways of making payments for new supplies or receiving cash for items ordered via my M-gurush.<\/p>\n

July 1, 2021, was a month that reminded me of the introduction of the online tax administration portal referred to as e-tax by the National Revenue Authority. I felt proud of how we are moving towards a digital world like other countries around the world.<\/p>\n

I personally got excited, putting in mind that I would be doing all my tax remittances in the comfort of my small business office with ease. No more hustle-just my smartphone and I am good to go. After several months, neither I nor my Habesh friend who works in the hardware business understand how the entire platform works. We have been disappointed and frustrated at the same time. This is the common feeling that many people who are eager to know more about the system have, but they are unfortunately kept in the dark.<\/p>\n

Whenever I pass around town and see South Sudanese musicians distributing posters about their next upcoming event, I get the feeling that the same energy is necessary in teaching the people how to use e-tax. I dare say that the National Revenue Authority would have made ordinary people like me understand how the etax thing works, and I would not be relying on third party agents to make sure the little payment I remit is processed and the clearance certificate issued promptly.<\/p>\n

If this were to happen, I feel that the government would definitely see an effective and early remittance of taxes since most people would have already been sensitised and know how to remit their taxes using the platform. What keeps wondering in my brain is: has the system been phased off? Or are we back to our usual manual system?<\/p>\n

I might be the only person writing this, but I do feel there are many out there waiting for the same answers from the authorities in charge.<\/p>\n
