Africa-Press – South-Sudan. <\/strong><\/span>The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations has ranked Western Equatoria State as the best in its annual food production index for 2021.<\/p>\n

This was announced by FAO\u2019s Country Representative during the launch of \u201cCommunity Action for Peaceful Resolution of Housing, Land and Property Disputes and Conflicts\u201d in Wau Town.<\/p>\n

Meshack Malo said Western Equatoria showed up with an overall performance of 125 percent followed by Eastern Equatoria 89 percent and Western Bahr el Ghazal the third with 84 percent.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe number one was Western Equatoria that has 126 in the performance of agriculture, anything above 100 percent means you are able to produce enough food for yourself,\u201d Malo disclosed.<\/p>\n

Meshack Malo did not however made public performances of the remaining seven states and three administrative areas.<\/p>\n

Mr. Malo stated that the improvement of food production in Western Bahr el Ghazal state was attributed to peace and stability in the area.<\/p>\n

For her part, Western Bahr al Ghazal State Governor Sarah Cleto applauded FAO for its efforts in fighting food insecurity in the country.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are grateful to FAO for what they have been doing in terms of agriculture and livelihood support to our people,\u201d Sarah said.<\/p>\n

In December last year, a report by the UN Food and Agriculture Organization estimated that South Sudan lost at least 37,000 tons of cereal production to flash floods in 2021.<\/p>\n
