Africa-Press – South-Sudan. <\/strong><\/span>South Sudan\u2019s Vice President for Service Cluster, Hussein Abdelbagi Akol said the government is working to pay all the salaries and arrears of civil servants on monthly basis.<\/p>\n

Civil servants have gone without salary for about five years, although the government earlier announced that it had obtained finance to clear salary arrears.<\/p>\n

Speaking during inauguration ceremony, Abdelbagi said government is working to pay government employee on time.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe government is making efforts to ensure that all civil servants salaries are paid on time,\u201d Abdelbagi said during inauguration ceremony of renovated administration office and other facilities at the University of Juba on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

Abdelbagi reaffirmed the government willingness to protect the civil servants.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs government, we depends the rights of everyone including government employees and students,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Government employees, especially the soldiers, police and teachers are reportedly living in squalid conditions as the government continues millions from oil and on-oil revenue.<\/p>\n

On March 31, 2021, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) approved a disbursement of $174.2 million to South Sudan under the Rapid Credit Facility (RCF) to address economic challenges due to fall in international oil prices, the impact of COVID-19 and flooding that affected the apart of the country.<\/p>\n

The government then announced that it would use half of that money to support the budget and cover civil servants salary arrears.<\/p>\n
