Africa-Press – South-Sudan. <\/strong><\/span>UN Deputy Spokesman Farhan Haq, while briefing the press at the United Nations Headquarters in New York on Monday, said UNMISS continues to document alarming human rights violations in South Sudan.<\/p>\n

\u201cAcross South Sudan, the UN Mission continues to document an alarming number of human rights violations stemming from intercommunal violence,\u201d Haq said. \u201cLast week, there were 13 incidents resulting in 21 civilian casualties reported, mostly in Greater Equatoria.\u201d<\/p>\n

He added: \u201cIn South Sudan, our colleagues at the UN peacekeeping mission in South Sudan (UNMISS), have carried out an air patrol over Duk County in Jonglei, following an attack on civilians last week that reportedly resulted in the deaths of at least 13 people.\u201d<\/p>\n

Haq said the UN Mission is working with youth, local authorities, and political leaders at the state and national levels to reduce tensions and prevent further violence.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe UN Mission urges national and local authorities to take immediate steps to protect civilians and end impunity to ensure that perpetrators are held to account,\u201d he concluded.<\/p>\n
