Africa-Press – South-Sudan. <\/strong><\/span>Authorities in Eastern Equatoria State have confirmed that the installation of the fiber optic cable along the Torit-Nadapal highway kicked off on Monday.<\/p>\n

The fiber optic cable will bolster telecommunications and internet services and many citizens welcomed the development and asked the state government to ensure the installation proceeds without delays.<\/p>\n

The director-general at the state ministry of roads and bridges, who is also the overseer of Juba-Torit-Nadapal highway construction, Engineer Norman Charles Gideon, told Radio Tamazuj Monday that the cable will run parallel to the highway.<\/p>\n

\u201cA company has been sent by the national government to start laying the fiber optic cable that will be extended from the Indian Ocean through Eastern Equatoria to Juba,\u201d he said. \u201cThis system is going to run by the side of the highway and will be at a depth of 2.5 meters in the ground.\u201d<\/p>\n

Engineer Charles said the people should be aware of and embrace the ongoing work because it is for national development.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo, I want to make the people aware of the ongoing work and it is for the betterment of all our citizens across the country because we will not have problems with the internet and people will even watch live television,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

Naboi Christine, a youth, welcomed the development and said it will reduce the cost of communication, boost development and check insecurity.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt will boost the economy of this country because airtime will be cheap and it will decrease insecurity because people will get timely information due to connectivity,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

The laying of the cable is being implemented by the Juba-based QUAVENTO Company Limited and its other partners will install the other end from Eldoret in Kenya and they will meet at the border.<\/p>\n
