Africa-Press – South-Sudan. <\/strong><\/span>South Sudan will be going all out for a historic first victory when they take on Tanzania in the opening match of the CECAFA Women\u2019s Championship today, June 2, in Kampala.<\/p>\n

Bright Starlets have never won a match at the regional competition but Coach Shilene Booysen has challenged her girls to go all out and do the unthinkable.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou need to approach the games with a lot of seriousness,\u201d the former Banyana Banyana tactician told her players yesterday.<\/p>\n

But Booysen knows that it is not going to be an easy ride; that Tanzania are not push overs.<\/p>\n

Twiga Stars are still reeling from a 2019 defeat at the hands of Kenya, in the final barley two years ago. The Tanzanians know that meeting a relatively weaker opponents like Bright Stars, in the opener, would be big opportunity to run away with the maximum points.<\/p>\n

But Booysen is not cowed by the past records either. The South African told her charges to approach this game with a lot of composure, telling her players to joyously protectant the ball if they are to outsmart their opponents.<\/p>\n

She knows that to advance to the next stage, or at least for the underdogs to pull a surprise, they must slay a few giants along the way.<\/p>\n

Bright Starlets will also face Zanzibar and Ethiopia in the other Group B matches.<\/p>\n

Sony Harriet Amaka, the team\u2019s assistant told The City Review from Kampala that the mood in the camp was upbeat adding they were ready to face Tanzania.<\/p>\n

\u201cEverything is fine. The head coach advised the players on how to take over Tanzania tomorrow (Thursday),\u201d said Amaka.<\/p>\n

Captain Emy Lasu though upbeat that the team will outdo their 2019 overall performance, told defenders to be ruthless at the back.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe want to offer our best effort and avoid a recurrence of our previous CECAFA performance, in which we failed to win a single game \u201cCaptain Lusa made a statement.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe want to give a performance better than the last time we were at CECAFA, and to ensure we don\u2019t concede a lot of goals.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe best we are hoping for is to get at least one win in those three matches if worst comes to worst,\u201d Lasu emphasised.<\/p>\n

Zanzibar will take on Ethiopia in an early game at noon before the Bright Starlets face Tanzania at 3:00 PM East African time.<\/p>\n

Group A has hosts Uganda, Burundi, Djibouti and Rwanda.<\/p>\n
