Africa-Press – South-Sudan. <\/strong><\/span>Bor Municipal Council on Saturday launched a general cleaning ahead of World Environment Day.<\/p>\n

The cleaning is targeting the main market and all the residential areas within Bor town.<\/p>\n

Speaking to The City Review, Awur Deng Lueth, the Director of Public Health at Bor Municipal Council, encouraged the residents to clean their homes and the streets.<\/p>\n

\u201cMost people are complying with the general cleaning within the town and we haven\u2019t punished anyone who is not complying because residents are complying with the municipal council and in flood areas,\u201d Awur said, adding, \u201cWe urged them to remove the containers, plastic bags, and other garbage in the residential areas.\u2019\u2019<\/p>\n

\u201cCleanliness promotes hygiene and sanitation to stop the spread of diseases such as cholera and malaria, which are caused by mosquito bites,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n

World Environment Day is celebrated on June 5 every year to raise awareness about degrading environmental conditions and to encourage people globally to take positive environmental actions to help create a better future. It is always led by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP).<\/p>\n

The theme for this year\u2019s celebration was \u2018Only One Earth.\u2019<\/p>\n
