Africa-Press – South-Sudan. <\/strong><\/span>The Commissioner of Ezo County, Western Equatoria State, Col. Abel Sudan, has threatened a crackdown on children who have not reported to school since the beginning of the academic year, 2022.<\/p>\n

He gave them one week to do so before he goes on a physical hunting spree.<\/p>\n

Col. Abel further ordered the pupils to immediately report back to school as directed.<\/p>\n

He said he would be compelled to take severe action against any student found loitering during classes.<\/p>\n

\u201cYoung people struggle to get into school in other places, but this is not the case in Ezo.\u201d [Here they] don\u2019t want to be in classes. They transform into agents of destruction,\u2019\u2019 he said.<\/p>\n

He was speaking at the Ezo Secondary School during the launch of the teachers\u2019 incentive scheme.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am not going to stand by and let this happen.\u201d I will start by talking to them and listening to what they have to say, but if they don\u2019t listen, I will arrest them and take them to prison. \u201c<\/p>\n

The commissioner tasked the parents with reporting any suspicious cases of learners skipping classes.<\/p>\n

He said the children would only take studies seriously if their parents and guardians get serious about them.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou cannot expect children to do the right thing if you have not educated them. They will always follow the groups that spoil them. So, encouraging the children to go to school is a parents\u2019 responsibility.\u2019\u2019<\/p>\n

Besides the matters of education, the commissioner said a lack of business skills had crippled businesses in the area, hence the need to sensitise the traders.<\/p>\n

\u201cFor this reason, our enterprises are not stable. The majority of them lack adequate company management training. I will also get them involved so they can go back to school for their benefit,\u201d he emphasised.<\/p>\n

Last month, the authorities in Ezo County launched a back-to-learning campaign to bring back school dropouts.<\/p>\n
