Africa-Press – South-Sudan. <\/strong><\/span>The governor of Eastern Equatoria State, Louis Lobong Lojore, has called on his constituents to focus on farming to avert the looming hunger.<\/p>\n

Lobong said farming holds the key to restoring waning economic potential as it has been proven even by developed countries.<\/p>\n

He made the statement on Friday while addressing the organised forces in Torit a head of independence celebration scheduled to take place in Magwi County.<\/p>\n

He claimed that some neighbouring counties have already put restrictions on food export to South Sudan due to shortage, hence the need for South Sudan to break the circle on dependence on imported food.<\/p>\n

\u201cLet me hope you have been getting that there is fighting between Ukraine and Russia. These two countries are the major suppliers of food in the whole world and now the war has interrupted [that],\u2019\u2019 he said.<\/p>\n

\u2018\u2018As we are talking with you now, even our neighbour, Uganda, said no food will come out of their country and even Kenya said their maize flour should not come out and all these years we have been buying food from Kenya and Uganda,\u201d Lobong explained.<\/p>\n

He emphasised that with good planning for agricultural activities, the country will be able to avoid a potential catastrophe. He extended this call to the members of organised forces who he said could help bridge the food shortage and eat from their hard work.<\/p>\n

\u201cLet us take the issue of agriculture very seriously and I need all the barracks to have gardens,\u201d Lobong stated.<\/p>\n
