Africa-Press – South-Sudan. <\/strong><\/span>The Head of the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS), Nicholas Haysom, has appealed to the government to take measures against perpetrators of inter-communal violence in Kapoeta North County, Eastern Equatoria State.<\/p>\n

UN peacekeepers are currently deployed in the area to ensure maximum security is observed by preventing revenge attacks.<\/p>\n

\u201cUNMISS appeals to the national, state, and local community leaders to take urgent steps to prevent the violence from spiralling, specifically to resolve disputes through dialogue; in addition to holding accountable those responsible for the violence,\u201d read the statement.<\/p>\n

\u201cUNMISS continues to maintain a visible presence and is engaging with local authorities and affected communities to further assess the situation and to prevent revenge attacks.\u201d<\/p>\n

It further calls for the transport of civilians with severe wounds to Torit where they could receive proper medical attention.<\/p>\n

On Wednesday last week, at least 68 people were killed and over 55 others wounded as a result of a cattle raid in Kapoeta North County, Eastern Equatoria State.<\/p>\n

The Commissioner of Kapoeta North County, Emmanuel Iponi Lolimo, disclosed to the City Review that the raiders invaded the cattle camp in Lokoromoi village while inhabitants were in their farms, taking away over 15,000 cattle.<\/p>\n

10 people were killed, but the death toll later rose to 68 dead and 58 other wounded. The Commissioner called upon the state government to provide adequate security and ensure that the raided cattle are returned.<\/p>\n
