Africa-Press – South-Sudan. <\/strong><\/span>South Sudans\u2019 National Revenue Authority (NRA) on Wednesday said it had collected at least 78 billion South Sudanese Pounds in non-oil revenue for the fiscal year 2022\/2023.<\/p>\n

NRA Commissioner-General, Dr. Patrick Mugoya said during the launch of tax center in Juba on Wednesday that the amount is 20 billion pounds more than the government projection which was 58 billion pounds.<\/p>\n

Dr. Mugoya pledged to improve the collection of non-oil revenues in order to boost the economic growth of South Sudan.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur collection should not fall below 9.7 billion pounds for each month, and the two collecting divisions of NRA, that is domestic and customs are to contribute 62 percent and 38 percent respectively,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

The NRA boss reassured taxpayers of facilitation to ensure that they comply with their tax obligations.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe pledge to do all that which is in our means to deliver as expected, and we believe we will be able to meet our target especially if NRA will continue to enjoy support and guidance from the ministry of finance and the entire transitional government of national unity,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

He said that the National Revenue Authority is taking a bold step in making the taxpaying experience not only simpler but also more convenient and less costly.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe NRA will consider establishing more tax centers in the city of Juba and beyond, through exemplary teamwork spirit and commitment and we are able to register important milestones in our quest to improve service delivery and keep up the momentum on non-oil revenue mobilization,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Established in 2018, the NRA is mandated to assess, collect, administer and enforce laws relating to taxation and revenues.<\/p>\n

The establishment is one of the measures to reduce dependency on oil revenues, strengthen the non-oil revenue sector and strengthen expenditure control required to achieve short-term fiscal austerity objectives.<\/p>\n
