Africa-Press – South-Sudan. <\/strong><\/span>The Juba City Council plans to use cheap labour of more than 500 members of illegal gangs \u2013 \u2018Niggas and Toronto\u2019 boys in producing food for the country.<\/p>\n

Mayor Michael Lado Allah-Jabu declared a crackdown on the gangs early this year.<\/p>\n

The mostly young boys have been terrorising city residents, snatching items before fleeing mostly on boda, leaving behind traumatized victims while the unlucky ones sometimes suffer injuries.<\/p>\n

The council announced Friday that they have arrested almost 500 members adding that 10 other groups are on the watch list of the local authorities.\u200b\u200b<\/p>\n

Allan-Jabu said that those arrested will be sent to the remotest parts of the country where they will be cultivating farmlands.<\/p>\n

\u201cThose arrested will be sent to different states to work for agricultural production until the government makes a reformatory for them because most of them are underage,\u201d read a statement from Allan Jabu\u2019s office.<\/p>\n

The Mayor further cautioned the youth from joining illegal gangs while at the same time urged the communities to team up with the City Council to help in the fight against crime in the city.<\/p>\n

Those harbouring the illegal group have also been put on notice with the government now having surveillance in Lologo and Gumbo residential areas.<\/p>\n

In April 2022, at least 33 suspected crew members are commonly known as Niggas, were arrested during a police exercise to crackdown on Niggas and Toronto boys. The 33 included 17 boys and 16 girls arrested in Lologo, Atlabara and Hai Referendum.<\/p>\n
