Africa-Press – South-Sudan. <\/strong><\/span>President Salva Kiir Mayardit is expected to form new two committees to oversee and disseminate the implementation of the 2018 peace deal after the extension of the transitional period by 2 years, a senior government official said.<\/p>\n

Speaking to reporters following a regular cabinet meeting in Juba on Friday, information minister Michael Makuei Lueth disclosed that President Kiir will form two committees next week after the extension of the transitional period to oversee the implementation of pending tasks.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe committees will probably be formed next week in the next meetings. One committee will be formed to disseminate the agreement and another committee to take charge of the implementation,\u201d Makuei said.<\/p>\n

Makuei said the committee to take charge of implementation will be tasked to keep all proper updated records on the implementation of the deal.<\/p>\n

\u201cA committee will be set up to oversee the implementation of the agreement and that committee will be keeping proper updated records on implementation of the agreement,\u201d Makuei said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere will be also another committee that will disseminate the agreement to the people of South Sudan because it seems that some of the people up to now are not well versed with the agreement.\u201d<\/p>\n

On Thursday, South Sudan political leaders signed a roadmap extending the transitional period of the peace agreement for 24 months \u2013 starting from 22 February 2023.<\/p>\n

The new roadmap was inked by President Salva Kiir and his former arch-rival, Riek Machar first-vice president, and other signatories in the capital Juba.<\/p>\n

It aims to complete the political, security, and electoral reforms needed to move the country forward.<\/p>\n
