Africa-Press – South-Sudan. <\/strong><\/span>The speaker of the Reconstituted Transitional National Legislative Assembly, Jemma Nunu Kumba, launched the women and youth empowerment foundation.<\/p>\n

The foundation dubbed Jemma Nunu Kumba Foundation will support the needy and fight for the rights of women and girls in the country, Kumba said.<\/p>\n

She announced the foundation during a commemoration of the 1st anniversary as the first female speaker of the South Sudan Parliament yesterday in Juba.<\/p>\n

Kumba promised to ensure transparency in the funds contributed under the foundation by well-wishers to support women and youth.<\/p>\n

\u201cI take this opportunity to announce the establishment of Jemma Nunu Kumba Foundation to help foster and create a society in which the youth, the women, the girl child can live free of gender inequality and economic depreciation,\u201d she declared.<\/p>\n

She reiterated that the foundation would act as a tool to fight all the injustices against women and girls in South Sudan<\/p>\n

\u201cThe foundation shall promote compassion and hope and discourage injustice against women and girls,\u201d Kumba stressed.<\/p>\n

According to the speaker, the foundation will mainly focus on the promotion of reproductive healthcare among women, peacebuilding, and education among others.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe foundation would support the education of needy women and girls, promote health care especially reproductive health to young people, fight for the right for women and girls, cultural development and mentoring of young people,\u201d she explained.<\/p>\n

Kumba reiterated that the foundation would encompass areas of peacebuilding to steer the country to peace.<\/p>\n

She revealed that most of the funds contributed to the foundation would be used to address gender-based violence<\/p>\n

\u201cThe other women fund will focus on economic support of women and address economic related gender-based violence against women and girls in line with sustainable development goal,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
