Africa-Press – South-Sudan. <\/strong><\/span>Torrential rain and resultant flash floods on Tuesday night displaced thousands of people in Aweil Town forcing families to move to high grounds.<\/p>\n

The flooding affected the residential areas of New Site, Deng Nhial, Makuac Awit, Naivasha, and Hai Salam among others, and destroyed the properties of the residents.<\/p>\n

Ngor Akol, an affected resident said the deluge which he described to be like a river filled up his house.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe water is too much and my house is filled with water,\u201d he said. \u201cMy house has turned into a river and this problem started on Tuesday night.\u201d<\/p>\n

Adut Maduok, a pregnant mother said the flashfloods destroyed her kitchen and that her house is still filled with water and asked for assistance.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe water is so high and all houses collapsed. Our bedroom is filled with water and a small kitchen collapsed last (Tuesday) night,\u201d she said. \u201cWe are now in an open space with the children. Life is too hard for us and we were unable to take any property from the flooded homes.\u201d<\/p>\n

Another flood-affected resident, Kuot Manon from the Naivasha suburb, said his houses collapsed and urged the government and humanitarian partners to provide much-needed assistance.<\/p>\n

\u201cLook! That is New Site residential area submerged and all houses have been destroyed,\u201d he lamented.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, the representative of the chiefs from the affected neighborhoods, Lual Lual Bak, has confirmed the damage and loss of property caused by the floods and promised to release a detailed statement after collecting more information about the damage.<\/p>\n

\u201cAll people have migrated to highlands along the railroad and highways,\u201d he said. \u201cNaivasha, Gabat, Makuac-Awit, and Deng Nhial have become river sides where many houses have been demolished by flood waters and we are working on an assessment to get the exact numbers.\u201d<\/p>\n

The deputy chairperson for the Relief and Rehabilitation Commission in Northern Bahr el Ghazal State, Dominic Kang Deng, said the state government will host an urgent conference to find ways of assisting the affected households.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe floods are too heavy and we are working closely with partners next Monday we have a conference which will be attended by the governor because many residential areas including ones in counties were washed,\u201d said Kang.<\/p>\n
