Africa-Press – South-Sudan. <\/strong><\/span>South Sudan\u2019s main armed opposition group, Sudan People\u2019s Liberation Movement-in Opposition (SPLM-IO), led by the country\u2019s First Dr. Riek Machar has nominated two lawmakers to the East African Legislative Assembly.<\/p>\n

Ms. Saadia James Sabit and Mr. Luke Thompson Thoan Teny were nominated during a meeting of the SPLM-IO parliamentary caucus chaired by Machar over the weekend.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe woman list has been won by Ms. Saadia James Sabit with 92 out of 131 votes, and the party list was won by Mr. Luke Thompson Thoan Teny with 94 out of 132 votes,\u201d said a statement extended to Sudans Post on Monday.<\/p>\n

They were elected by the members of the Political Bureau, members of the Executive Council, lawmakers from the Transitional National Legislative Assembly, and the Council of States.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe party has got only two seats for the regional organization. The SPLM-IO as usual considered gender representation and thus allocated 1 seat to a female and the other to a male,\u201d it said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe election was conducted in a free, fair, and democratic environment as these are the very values, visions, and missions for which our party was founded.\u201d<\/p>\n
