Africa-Press – South-Sudan. <\/strong><\/span>The Central Equatoria State Governor, Emmanuel Adil Anthony has called on South Sudanese in the diaspora to support the SPLM in the expected 2024 general elections.<\/p>\n This came after he held a meeting with the Chairperson of SPLM in the USA, Moses Taban, during the 77th United Nations General Assembly.<\/p>\n Governor Adil urged South Sudanese living in diaspora to render optimum support for SPLM during the 2024 general elections.<\/p>\n \u201cEmmanuel Adil Anthony rallied South Sudanese in the diaspora to rally behind the SPLM party now and during the 2024 General Elections,\u201d the statement from the office of the governor read.<\/p>\n Taban assured the governor that the chapter was willing to push SPLM towards victory in the 2024 general elections.<\/p>\n \u201cSpeaking on behalf of the party members in the United States, Taban reaffirmed the chapter\u2019s political will in the U.S. to support the ultimate victory of the ruling party in South Sudan given its track record.\u201d<\/p>\n In May 2022, Central Equatoria State launched a mass mobilisation of SPLM members in readiness for elections, ahead of the May 16 celebrations.<\/p>\n The head of the delegation from the National Secretariat and a member of the National Liberation Council, Aldo Ajou Deng, urged SPLM members to be cohesive as they push forward with the party\u2019s agenda.<\/p>\n \u201cLet us orient our party, organise it and unite it as one people. The unity of equal people. We hold our unity in diversity. Our diversity is not tribal. \u201cSomething is wrong with South Sudan; everyone wants to be anything,\u201d Ajou said.<\/p>\n The SPLM Secretary-General in Central Equatoria State, Anna Kaku Samson, said the party was ready for elections.<\/p>\n Many states endorsed President Salva Kiir Mayardit as the flagbearer, including Central Equatoria, Eastern Equatoria, Unity, and Upper Nile states, among others.<\/p>\n In August 2022, the government extended the transitional period by 24 months from February 22, 2023, to February 22, 2025.<\/p>\n The Minister for Cabinet Affairs, Elia Lomuro, announced that elections would be made in December 2024, two months before the end of the extended transitional period.<\/p>\n The two leaders stated in the same vein that the transitional period was not extended for them to overstay in power but to ensure a smooth transition to democracy.<\/p>\n Since then, SPLM\/A-IO has embarked on launching its offices in the states including Central Equatoria State, and Lakes State although some members were arrested.
