Africa-Press – South-Sudan. <\/strong><\/span>The head of Agwelek delegation to Juba, Paul Achot Achobek, has warned Gatwech forces against attacking the Shilluk people adding that such a move is like \u2018attacking the national forces\u2019.<\/p>\n

Achobek further hinted that the conflict in Upper Nile should be interpreted as an aggression on the government by forces loyal to Simon Gatwech.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe war that Gen. [Simon] Gatwech and company is waging against us in the Shilluk Kingdom is in fact waged against the government to bring it down and we happened to be in the way if you like,\u201d Achot said.<\/p>\n

He added that SPLM should consider necessary steps towards ending the conflict. \u201cIt\u2019s now up to our peace partner (SPLM-IG) to accept this fact and take what we are saying seriously.\u201d<\/p>\n

Last week, the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) said fresh clashes in Fashoda County, Upper Nile State, had displaced over 8,000 people.<\/p>\n

Nicholas Haysom, the UN Secretary-General Special Representative urged the feuding armed groups to cease hostilities and accept mediation from the political and religious leaders.<\/p>\n

\u2018\u2018Clashes are believed to have resulted in the loss of a significant number of lives, women being abducted, and more than 8,000 people being displaced from Kodok Town,\u201d partly read the statement.<\/p>\n

\u201cUNMISS is calling on armed groups to respect the freedom of movement on the Nile and its tributaries, straddling the states of Upper Nile and Jonglei,\u201d it added.<\/p>\n
