Africa-Press – South-Sudan. <\/strong><\/span>Vice President Rebecca Nyandeng is expected to rally international support for alleviating the humanitarian crisis in South Sudan.<\/p>\n

Nyandeng, who is in charge of the Economic Cluster, traveled to Italy\u2019s capital, Rome, where she will give a presentation on the humanitarian situation at home, during the World Food Programme (WFP) conference.<\/p>\n

The conference that has kicked off on November 5, through to 16, will seek a universal declaration on the eradication of hunger and malnutrition.<\/p>\n

A recent joint report by the WFP, FAO and other humanitarian agencies shows that up to seven million south Sudanese could face severe malnutrition in the first two quarters of 2023. The report further warned that about 1.4 million children in south Sudan could face malnutrition during the same period in review.<\/p>\n

Nyadeng travelled to Rome at the invitation of WFP, one of the biggest humanitarian agencies working in South Sudan.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe will make a presentation to the Board of the World Food Programme about the humanitarian crisis facing the country, and the country\u2019s dire need of humanitarian assistance,\u201d David Dau Acuoth, Executive Director in the Office of the Vice President said.<\/p>\n

The WFP board of directors are expected to approve the proposed budget for operation in South Sudan.<\/p>\n

City Review could not independently establish how but it is estimated that the organization spent in excess of US$ 57.7 in cash, annually.<\/p>\n

WFP works to ensure that vulnerable people affected by conflict, displacement, climate shocks (flooding and drought) and economic crises can meet their food and nutrition needs, either through the distribution of foodstuff or cash transfers.<\/p>\n
