Africa-Press – South-Sudan. <\/strong><\/span>The Executive Director of the Community Empowerment for Progress Organization (CEPO), Edmund Yakani, has welcomed the ratification of the roadmap by the national legislatures.<\/p>\n The roadmap extends the transitional period for another two years.<\/p>\n Speaking to The City Review yesterday, Yakani said the ratification of the roadmap has three stages, the first of which mandates the political parties to agree among themselves on the way forward.<\/p>\n He said that the second stage allowed the Reconstituted Joint Monitoring and Evaluation Commission (R-JMEC) to give its feedback before the<\/p>\n the parliament could endorse it.<\/p>\n According to Yakani, the roadmap has now become a legitimate document to hold all parties accountable after being ratified by the national parliament.<\/p>\n The activist reminded the lawmakers of their responsibility, as they have a big role to play during the implementation of the roadmap.<\/p>\n \u201cThe important role of parliamentarians is to hold the cabinet, all ministers, and heads of commissions accountable for the work they do.\u201d<\/p>\n He stated that the parliament must make sure that every minister performs his role in line with the provisions of the roadmap.<\/p>\n \u201cFor example, in terms of the reforms that each ministry wants to carry out, the members of parliament must question the minister or official concerned why he did not carry out the reform required of him in this matter or that.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cI know that the majority of members of parliament are not aware that the agreement has tasked them withholding the executive accountable in implementing the agreement,\u201d Yakani added.<\/p>\n Yakani warned that in case of a violation of the agreement, the parliament would also be held accountable for failing to perform its role.<\/p>\n According to the activist, the Parliament has the responsibility to redefine the legislation that comes from the National Constitutional Amendment Committee (NCAC).<\/p>\n Yakani called on the national parliament to take real action towards the implementation of the roadmap.<\/p>\n For More News And Analysis About South-Sudan<\/a> Follow Africa-Press<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" Mathiang Makuach Africa-Press – South-Sudan.
