Africa-Press – South-Sudan. <\/strong><\/span>Hosts South Sudan kicked off her campaign at the ongoing East Africa Inter-Parliamentary Games on the right footing after walloping a misfiring Kenya 3-1 in a football match.<\/p>\n Members of the Reconstituted Transitional National Legislative Assembly ran a mock of their goal-shy counterparts from Kenya, after grabbing maximum points on day one of the regional games.<\/p>\n The victory now gives hope to local legislatures who are hosting over 800 members from regional assemblies, here in Juba.<\/p>\n South Sudan that hosting her maiden regional inter-parliamentary games. The games are being held at different venues across Juba.<\/p>\n In women\u2019s netball, Kenya fell to Uganda by 40-10 points.<\/p>\n Speaker of the Uganda Parliament, Anita Among who is leading a 200-member Ugandan delegation emphasized the need to urgently integrate the region to widen economic opportunities.<\/p>\n She added that sports is one way to accelerate that important undertaking.<\/p>\n Moses Wetangula, Kenya\u2019s National Assembly Speaker challenged EAC member states to hasten the implementation of cross border movement of people and goods.<\/p>\n \u201cI want to urge honourable members of our national parliament that the dream of free movement of people, goods and services in the East Africa region must be fulfilled in our lifetime.<\/p>\n Wetangala led the 280 members of parliament from Kenya.<\/p>\n \u201cWe want to encourage that a South Sudanese must feel as happy in Nairobi as they feel in Juba and a Ugandan must feel as happy in Der es Salama as they feel in Kampala. We come here to unite as one because sports is what unites people. Sports unite the world,\u201d said Wetangula.<\/p>\n The games have attracted over MP from across the EAC member states, except DR Congo.<\/p>\n Kenya has the highest representation with 280 delegations followed by Uganda (200), Tanzania (180), EALA (100), Burundi (70), Rwanda 46 with South Sudan having over 100 players, according to speaker Jamme Nunu Kumba.<\/p>\n \u201cThe joint planning committee for EAC Inter-Parliamentary Games proposed the republic of South Sudan to host these games. That\u2019s why we are here,\u201d Nunu said during the opening ceremony on Friday.<\/p>\n The games will run until November 1.<\/p>\n\r\n
