Africa-Press – South-Sudan. <\/strong><\/span>Uganda has thrown her weight behind Morocco\u2019s bid to host the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations \u2013 AFCON finals.<\/p>\n

Kampala said that it will stand with Casablanca which has come out strongly as a potential replacement for Guinea.<\/p>\n

Guinea was stripped off of its rights due to concerns over the dearth of infrastructure.<\/p>\n

\u201cReceived a message from His Highness, King Mohammed VI of Morocco, seeking support in their bid to host the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations,\u201d Yoweri Museveni, Uganda\u2019s head of state said in a tweet.<\/p>\n

Museveni, however, cautioned his support will only stand if it doesn\u2019t collide with that of the region.<\/p>\n

\u201cBeing the first country to approach us, I will support them on condition that it doesn\u2019t collide with the interests of the East African states,\u201d the octogenarian leader, one of the longest-serving presidents in Africa added.<\/p>\n

Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania have so far expressed interest to table a joint bid for the 2017 AFCON finals.<\/p>\n

The deadline for submitting the bid was on 11 November, through the Cairo-based Confederation of Africa Football (CAF) is expected to receive bid documents, including proposed host cities and government guarantees, by 16 December.<\/p>\n

CAF inspectors will then tour all the countries that have shown interest in hosting the event, from 5 to 25 January 2023 before making a final decision.<\/p>\n

Cameroon hosted the 2021 Nations Cup earlier this year. The next event will be staged in Ivory Coast next year.<\/p>\n

Algeria, South Africa, Nigeria and Senegal are some of the countries said to be interested in battling for rights alongside Morocco.<\/p>\n
