Africa-Press – South-Sudan. <\/strong><\/span>The permanent Representative of Bangladesh to the United Nations, Amb. Muhammad Muhith, <\/b>concluded his official visit to South Sudan with calls for the expedition of the peace deal roll-out.<\/p>\n Amb. Muhith, who is also the head of the United Nations Peacebuilding Commission, led his delegation in a meeting with, government officials, UN leadership, and representatives of the AU, IGAD, and financial institutions.<\/p>\n \u201cWe noted the collective commitment displayed across government interlocutors on the implementation of the peace agreement and the roadmap and by the active and positive engagement of civil society. We have also witnessed the excellent work led by community members, and youth in particular, in Wau to consolidate peace,\u201d the diplomat said.<\/p>\n The commission encouraged national stakeholders to swiftly implement the roadmap in the remainder of the transitional period, stressing the need to involve young voices.<\/p>\n \u201cSenior officials from IGAD and the World Bank underscored the need to scale up partnerships focusing on enhancing institutional capacity-building and accountable governance,\u201d the ambassador said in an interview with Radio Miraya.<\/p>\n \u201cMembers of the commission particularly welcomed the newly established ministry of peacebuilding and encouraged the government to continue its efforts to reform public financial management to support the delivery of basic services and strengthen the social contract between the state and society, especially among women and youth,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n He was accompanied by Osama Abdelkhalek, the Permanent Representative of Egypt and vice-chair of the commission, Carla Maria Carlson, who represented the Permanent Representative of the Dominican Republic to the UN and the vice chair of the Commission and the United Nations Assistant Secretary-General for Peacebuilding, Elizabeth Spehar.<\/p>\n The peacebuilding commission is an intergovernmental body consisting of 31 members, including the permanent five members of the Security Council, established to serve as an advisory and bridging body to support countries and regions with their peacebuilding priorities.<\/p>\n The commission also serves as a platform for any country to update member states of the commission on national peacebuilding efforts and to mobilize support.<\/p>\n The peace partners agreed on an extension for 24 months to allow the implementation of the pending chapters before the elections.<\/p>\n For More News And Analysis About South-Sudan<\/a> Follow Africa-Press<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" Sheila Ponnie Africa-Press – South-Sudan.
