Africa-Press – South-Sudan. <\/strong><\/span>South Sudan\u2019s First Vice President Dr. Riek Machar Teny has said that his government is working hard to clear rivers of weeds in order to ease drainage that is widely believed to resolve the ongoing flooding in Unity State.<\/p>\n

Machar who is also the leader of the main armed opposition Sudan People\u2019s Liberation Movement in Opposition (SPLM-I) made the remarks during a meeting with the commissioner of Rubkona County Gatluak Wichar Nyah at his office in Juba on Monday.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe national government is very cognizant of the current flooding situation in Unity State, we are working hard to make sure that our rivers are cleared to ease the flow of water,\u201d Machar who is a staunch supporter of river dredging initiative said.<\/p>\n

In a statement, the press secretary in the office of Rubkona County Commissioner Koang Bol Chiengjok said the Gatluak made a presentation to the First Vice President on the devastating flooding in the County.<\/p>\n

\u201cOn Monday, 12\/12\/2022, Hon. Commissioner Gatluak Wichar paid a visit the First Vice President and chairman of SPLMA IO, Dr. Riek Machar Teny in his office,\u201d the statement extended to Sudans Post this afternoon reads in part.<\/p>\n

\u201cDuring the meeting, the commissioner made an extended presentation on the current humanitarian situation in Rubkona County and unity state at large. The presentation elaborated on the achievements and challenges the County government has experienced as it battles this current natural calamity, flooding,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

He said Machar \u201cappreciated the commissioner for restoring peace in the entire County, encouraged the commissioner to continue with the same spirit\u201d after the commissioner \u201cappealed to H.E Dr. Machar for support from the national government as the entire region faces this natural disaster.\u201d<\/p>\n
