{"id":29073,"date":"2022-12-16T15:57:13","date_gmt":"2022-12-16T15:57:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/south-sudan\/all-news\/students-tell-govt-to-prioritise-education"},"modified":"2022-12-16T16:22:13","modified_gmt":"2022-12-16T16:22:13","slug":"students-tell-govt-to-prioritise-education","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/south-sudan\/all-news\/students-tell-govt-to-prioritise-education","title":{"rendered":"Students tell gov\u2019t to prioritise education"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><b>Kitab Unango<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Africa-Press &#8211; South-Sudan. <\/strong><\/span>The students of Juba Commercial Secondary School have called on the government to prioritise education in its developmental projects.<\/p>\n<p>They said increasing teachers\u2019 salaries, and providing a conducive working environment for them would ensure the delivery of quality education that prepares learners for effective leadership roles.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking on behalf of students during an advocacy campaign on the role of the youth, government, and civil society in preventing criminality among the youth, Joy Manase said without a quality education system, the county\u2019s future remains doomed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are calling on the government to pay our teachers well and on time,\u201d said Manase.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBecause of poor working conditions, we sometimes get only one lesson a day, and what do you expect students to do in the remaining hours?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Manase pointed out that poor education in the country has resulted in an increase in rates of crime among the youth, with gangs such as \u201cniggers\u201d terrorising society within residential areas.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe question is what causes these groups? \u201cIf there are no schools that offer quality education, train students to be future leaders, or provide vocational schools to empower the young, the country is at risk because there will be high rates of criminal activity,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are calling on the government to ensure that education is the backbone of any country, teachers should be considered the first priority in the budget so that they can deliver quality education to students who are the present and future leaders of South Sudan,\u201d Manase said.<\/p>\n<p>The chairperson of the Conflict Resolution and Reconciliation Commission in Central Equatoria State, Henry Kala Sabuni, said education remains one of the government\u2019s top priorities.<\/p>\n<p>Kala went on to say that the country\u2019s crime problem arose as a result of the December 2013 civil war, which destroyed social systems and gave unauthorised individuals access to weapons.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAll these challenges depend on peace to allow for the delivery of social services such as education, health, and roads,\u201d Kala said.<\/p>\n<p><strong>For More News And Analysis About <a href=\"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/south-sudan\">South-Sudan<\/a> Follow <a href=\"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/\">Africa-Press<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Kitab Unango Africa-Press &#8211; South-Sudan.
