Africa-Press – South-Sudan. <\/strong><\/span>As the festive season and New Year celebrations draw closer, organized forces have intensified security patrols in the capital, Juba and the states.<\/p>\n

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Tuesday, Police Spokesperson Major General Daniel Justin asked residents not to be afraid as the government scales up security measures in various locations.<\/p>\n

Justin said the patrolling in public spaces will help monitor the various neighbourhoods and look-out for anti-social elements, and offer help in cases of emergencies.<\/p>\n

He says police will cover areas targeted for opportunistic crimes, particularly shopping centres and crowded areas. \u201cOur patrolling used to be at night, but now our forces will be deployed day and night. We have joint forces to ensure that citizens celebrate Christmas and New Year peacefully,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn areas with insecurity, like Mangala and Upper Nile, we monitor the situation. But the situation in Mangala is calm because the parties involved have agreed to reconcile,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

Justin said police forces have provided extra security in and around the capital city and urged the citizens to be on the lookout for wrong elements within the society and report to the police for action.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere are gangs who are active in Juba, which is a security concern. So I call on parents to monitor their children. Our emergency call centre\u2019s number is 112, so we want the people to cooperate with us,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
